Buon Natale” is an Italian word meaning Merry Christmas. Buon Natale programme, the largest Christmas carol ever held in India. The rally started from Sacred Heart School at 4 pm and end at St. Thomas college premises after moving over the Swaraj Round.


Buon Natale is organised by Thrissur Citizen group and the Thrissur Arch Diocese. The main attraction of the Christmas rally was there had 5000 Santa Clauses, 2000 little angels and several still floats.

Buon Natale is the grand and special Christmas carol procession to be well-organised by the Archdiocese of Thrissur. With Thrissur Pouravali, it is conducted in association. On the world’s largest Santa Claus gathering, it broke the Guinness world record. It was witnessed by the Jury members of the Guinness World of Record’s headquarters located in London plus its Indian representative. It was held at the Sakthan Thamburan Ground with 18,112 Santas. It was reported that approximately 70 lakh was spend wholeheartedly for the imported dress for Santas specially. This also includes the expenditure on belt, shoes and beard.

It is to be remembered that the official website of Buon Natale carried details and information related to this event and invited participant on a fixed date. A large number of people submitted their application. A fixed number of applicants were selected in a successful manner and given the dress materials and other accessories to be worn on the said date and time by the organizing committee. The event took place on a Sunday at 4.35pm in Thrissur by Archdiocese of the Syro-Malabar Church. It is to be noted that it won the the Guinness World Records for having the largest number of people dressed up as Father Christmas or Santa Claus in a successful manner.

The gathering of Santas with red and white costumes was an attractive scene on this occasion. The grand and unique event was witnessed by Pontifical Lateran University Major Rector Archbishop Enrico dal Covolo. It is to be remembered that special arrangement was successful made for perfectly counting the participants of this event. The other VIPs of the event was the local MLA, Mayor, District Collector, Archbishop of Thrissur, Auxiliary Bishop, KPCC general secretary and Cochin Devaswom Board president.

The event was successful with the active participation of many children belonging to the different Forane Churches of the diocese who were attractively dressed up as beautiful angels. The event also had more than 20 floats largely depicting the Vadakkumnathan Temple in Thrissur,   St Peter’s Basilica in Vatican, the Taj Mahal and several other cultural plus religious themes. In pooram town, it was the grand gathering of santa clauses in a successful manner.

 

The participants and people who witnessed the event have good memories to cherish related to it. It is a special event in their life that indicated their hard work that was blended with dedication and commitment with lot of perfection. The organising committee received appreciation and encouragement from the nook and corner of the world. The locals are also proud that this event happened in their native place.
